ShotSpotter, Inc. Momentum Increases With Recent Successes
Lives Saved, New Product Features Translate to New System Contracts
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- ShotSpotter, Inc., the leading developer of mission-essential wide-area acoustic surveillance systems, announced today that current customer successes with its flagship product, the ShotSpotter Gunshot Location System(R) (GLS), have resulted in increased awareness and adoption among law enforcement agencies due to the life-saving benefits of ShotSpotter's technology.
Spurred by such high-profile successes, broadening market acceptance, and ongoing product enhancements, ShotSpotter, Inc., sales and deployments are occurring at a rising pace. In the recent quarter alone, the ShotSpotter GLS has been procured by the cities of Richmond, Calif., Montgomery, Ala., Trenton, N.J., as well as two Westchester County, N.Y., cities Mount Vernon and Yonkers.
According to Jeff Downes, deputy mayor to Montgomery, Ala., Mayor Todd Strange, it was the system's benefit to community and police safety that garnered the city's interest. "We are very excited about the addition of the ShotSpotter GLS. This system will help citizens as well as the police department and 9-1-1 improve community safety by assisting anti-crime initiatives already in place, like the Weed and Seed program."
Director Irv Bradley of the Trenton, N.J., police department cites similar reasons for adding the ShotSpotter GLS to his department's arsenal of anti-crime technology. "We have been looking for some innovative technology to help us target gunfire which has been affecting the quality of life in our communities. We feel the ShotSpotter GLS is an extremely useful tool and will provide us with addition information about our city's gunfire rates. This information will help us minimize gunfire in our crime hot-spots and essentially improve the quality of life in our neighborhoods."
Shortly after installation, the ShotSpotter GLS alerted officers in Richmond, Calif., to the precise location where shots had been fired. Officers were able to immediately respond, saving the lives of two shooting victims.
According to Sergeant Dave Harris of the Richmond Police Department, "The Richmond Police Department is utilizing cutting edge technology to reduce violent crime in our community. With ShotSpotter we have been able to use the system for timely notification of a gunshot event. Within seconds we are able to rapidly deploy officers to respond to the scene. With the aid of our ShotSpotter GLS system we have been able to locate gunshot victims where there were no 9-1-1 calls. These victims received EMS assistance and lives have been saved. We have also removed several crime guns from our community that we are scientifically testing as crime guns. As our use of the ShotSpotter GLS evolves, we anticipate being able to use the system's data to augment already existing anti-violence crime programs, adding additional information to our intelligence-led policing efforts."
The ShotSpotter GLS detects, classifies, locates, and alerts first responders to gunfire and other explosive events in real-time. Currently, 45 cities and counties across the U.S. benefit from the ShotSpotter GLS providing precise gunshot incident alerts and comprehensive gunfire intelligence that is used successfully to drive intelligence-led policing efforts. Recent product enhancements, which include flexible and customizable analytic reports that reveal and highlight gunfire patterns and trends, help investigators, crime analysts, and law enforcement agency leaders solve individual shootings and direct violence suppression tactics where they are needed most.
ShotSpotter's Senior Vice President, Gregg Rowland, acknowledged that, "In the fight against gun violence, law enforcement agencies across the U.S. are increasingly adding the ShotSpotter GLS to their arsenals, recognizing it as a mission-essential tool in their gun and violent crime reduction efforts. These cities will gain the benefit of having previously unattainable information about gun crime so that they can proactively do something about it. This data puts valuable intelligence in the hands of public safety officials, allowing them to more effectively analyze and respond to gun crime trends. The end result will be increased safety for responding officers and the communities they serve."
Based on the current success rates and continued market interest, the company expects the number of locations using the system to double in the next 12 months.
